I have chosen to dedicate my professional life to international education for many reasons. When I was a teenager, I spent a year studying in Barcelona, Spain, and from that time on, I have lived a much outside my home country (USA) as inside it. Over the years, I have served in some of the best American/international schools around the world as a principal or headmaster and I have been privileged to work with students and their families from many nations. I am the father of two wonderful sons and the grandfather of three beautiful grandsons. My work in education has always been for them, to build strong schools and systems in which my sons and grandsons will have the opportunity to learn and to grow.
Thoughts from the Principal…..
When I was a young boy in primary school, the world was so much smaller than it is today. The number of things that an educated person needed to know as relatively small. But, by the 1960’s, we were in the middle of a “knowledge explosion” and today’s young people are faced with a vast world of knowledge and possibilities. Becoming an educated person is not about just knowing all the answers; it is about knowing what questions to ask. Being educated isn’t about working on your own; it’s about being creative and learning to collaborate with others.
It is my goal for Montverde Shanghai that we help students become creative and collaborative thinkers while learning to ask, and answer, the tough questions. We will do our best to help our students prepare to enter colleges and universities around the world and to take their place as leaders in the future.(headmaster-words)
